The original Blowtorch variant created by Devin Olsen of Tactical Fly Fisher. Even though he has updated his pattern--married it to the Red Dart, I have chosen to continue to use the original. I've tried other variants, as well as his new adaptation, however--I've had much more tremendous success with this original version. This one is tied with the black peacock ice dub body, 2 orange hotspots, and copper ribbing. The unsung hero though, is the strip of pearl tinsel that goes across the top. This fly is a killer in stained high-water conditions... or simply when the fish are being stingy. I've personally seen trout move from their feeding lane to take this fly. At one point a few years ago, this was my go-to fly on the Caney Fork. You need it in your box... the Blowtorch just simply works!
