A light yellow-tan pattern in a similar style of the elite Jack Daniels... but it's build & materials are very similar to the PMD Max. I was looking for a fly to match the nymph stage of the Sulphur Mayfly that has been coming off the water in large numbers this spring. After attempting several different unsatisfactory versions... I finally came across a YouTube video of Cory Cuje of Old Dominion Trout Bum (creator of the Jack Daniels). Cory has recently started making a perdigon fly in a sulphur imitation. He has named this particular perdigon the Brown Sugar. I was instantly drawn to his material choice and style of tie--utilizing light brown body quill. Using that inspiration, I quickly tied up a version of his Brown Sugar... but in the Jack Daniels style with a jig-style hook, dubbing collar, and CDC feathers. After bouncing-around several name options, I finally had a friend suggest Sweet Sulphur... since brown sugar is sweet, and it's a sulphur pattern--and the name stuck. The Sweet Sulphur has been an instant success this spring! The Sulphurs are a bigger mayfly, so I thought about only tying in a size 16 or even 14... however--I have noticed some smaller Pale Evening Duns coming off lately too... so I'll also include size 18.
